Think opera is not for you? Give us an hour and we’ll change your mind.

Award-winning Streetwise Opera is back, with a joyful and inspiring performance at Nottingham Trent University.

Discover that opera is about raw and authentic passion, and the epic emotions of everyday life.

Scenes from world-famous operas by Verdi, Gilbert and Sullivan, Lehár and others are presented with spirit, boldness and fun by Streetwise Opera performers supported by live musicians.

The Opera Hour includes the world-premiere of ‘The Wedding’, an opera chorus by composer in residence David Wilson, created with participants in Streetwise Opera’s weekly workshops at Emmanuel House, a day centre for people who are homeless, and Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

This performance is part of Streetwise Opera’s Opera Hour series, which includes events on 1 March at Middlesbrough Town Hall, 21 March at Sage Gateshead and Nottingham Trent University, 22 March at Southbank Centre and 26 March at Royal Northern College of Music.

The new commissions and the Opera Hour series were made possible thanks to the generous support of Arts Council England, The Dulverton Trust, Fidelio Charitable Trust, The Hinrichsen Foundation, The Leche Trust, PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund for Organisations, The RVW Trust and our Big Give Christmas Challenge Supporters.
