The future is bright

Our London performer Lekan Badmus describes taking part in our mentoring programme with principal corporate supporter Macquarie:

The Streetwise Opera and Macquarie programme 2017 has been a success in all ramifications. This is a collaboration between Streetwise Opera and the Macquarie Group aimed at facilitating progression for selected members of the Streetwise Opera groups in London. Specifically, five members of the Streetwise Opera were chosen to undertake this programme with a corresponding number from the Macquarie Group providing cumulative and unwavering mentoring.

The progamme was being co-ordinated by the irrepressible Lucinda Meredith and four brainstorming workshop sessions ensured that participants were creatively mentored in their chosen areas. The first session commenced with a project statement - a declaration of ideas, taking into consideration personal skills and realistic and achievable future goals. At this first meeting, there was the usual camaraderie and the session got into full swing.

The participants from Streetwise Opera were paired with their mentors from the Macquarie Group and thus an interesting academic and polemic jigsaw ensued.

The sessions were breathtaking and the experiences so far have been really encompassing. I applied for and attended a song-writing training aptly entitled 'Explore and Create Study Day' at John's Smith Square; an induction process has been arranged with Cardboard Citizens; and courses have been booked with City Lit. The organisational prowess of everyone involved in the programme has been immense. The future is bright.
